Leonardo da Vinci?
Journey into...
"Italian Renaissance Art".
Great Artists and Personal opinions.
This site explores all the major masterpieces of Italian Renaissance Art. Artists such as Giotto, Botticelli, Donatello, Masaccio, Fra Angelico, Piero Della Francesca and Mantegna all feature.
Of course the work of The High Renaissance masters Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael are all strongly represented.
The Renaissance, the rebirth of Art Science. This represents the pinnacle of artistic achievement, revived and confidently executed after a thousand years in the wilderness.
The site aims to encourage viewers to go and look at art in the flesh. Some works have a scale and power that can only be fully realised by seeing them live. Books (and websites) are fine, but it is live art that really fires the imagination.
The inovations of the Renaissance in Italy eventually expanded to include artists working in Northern Europe. Contemporary painters from the North include Durer, Bosch, Van Eyck, Van der Weyden and Gruenwald and articles on a selection of Northern artists are included on the site.
After the Renaissance period, and the artistic movement known
as
Mannerism, the begining of the seventeenth century saw the dawn of the
Baroque era. The artists Caravaggio
and
Peter Paul Rubens feature here
as examples of the Baroque style,
highlighting the influences from their Italian and Northern
predecessors on their work.
We admire and marvel at reproductions of great works of art be it a painting, or sculpture or a building. However, to stand before these works and witness their awe inspiring power is truly an unforgettable experience. I will give my personal opinions of the works I have seen from Florence, Rome, Venice and the Vatican city and attempt to describe some of the emotion I felt when viewing these masterpieces.
Together we will explore The Sistine Chapel with works by Michelangelo, Botticelli and Ghirlandaio.
The
Vitruvian Man and Mona Lisa are just some of
the examples of Leonardo's art and this truly great Renaissance artist
offers a genius that embraces anatomy, biology and science, all in
addition to his wonderful paintings.
If you are looking for references, timelines, dates, or just enjoy great art, you will find that biographies of Italian renaissance artists and historical details of the period, are all here at Italian Renaissance Art.
